Libraries are sticklers for their rules—and they have a lot of rules—but check out the latest one at the Yonkers (NY) Public Library: NO BALLOONS. While bringing a balloon to the library doesn’t seem to be a trend here in NYC, it was apparently a thing in Yonkers if enough people were bringing balloons to necessitate this sign. Gothamist

And setting off fire alarms when they burst, and blocking cctv cameras etc etc
Probably lots of reasons. Could also be something silly like someone did a baloon flashmob 😛
Balloons can be alarming!
Seriously. My library has high ceilings and a type of smoke detector that can be triggered by anything that floats by. Balloons are a no-no, but we don’t have any signs about it.
“Where there are balloons,
tears are sure to follow.” Fellow children’s librarians know the damage and utter pandemonium a balloon can cause in a room full of children. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a toddler bodycheck his best little buddy for a grab at a shiny, red, floating piece of latex.
