New Zealand Library Thieves Jailed

The Curmudgeony Librarian writes “The case of the stolen library books in Christchurch NZ has come to an end with the sentencing of the three thieves. Brothers Damien and Lonnie Keen, and Heather Tewani were sentenced to charges ranging from burglary and fraud to attempting to pervert the course of justice. The trio, along with Keens’ mother, Rona Keen, stole 660 books, worth $34,789 from the Christchurch and Dunedin libraries to sell to second-hand book dealers. Many of these books were not recovered. Additionally the group stole DVDs and CDs from the collections. The trio received jail time and fines for their crimes. Defendant Rona Keen will be sentenced soon.”
