New York Times taps librarian to judge 10 best picture books

Caroline Ward might coordinate your local summer reading program at the Ferguson, but she is also a super-librarian of sorts. The 62-year-old has served on the committees which award the most prestigious honors in children’s literature. She chaired the committee which awards the American Library Association’s (ALA) John Newbery Medal in 1990 and in 2006, chaired the first committee charged with awarding the Theodore Seuss Geisel Award, which honors the authors of books for early readers in the name of the late Dr. Seuss.
