New York Times praises book written by Oklahoma librarian

In the NYT Book Review’s Crime section last Sunday, Marilyn Stasio gave Oklahoma librarian Will Thomas’s novel Some Danger Involved a nice review.

A Victorian tale with characters lifted right out of Conan Doyle might not sound very original, but Will Thomas, an Oklahoma research librarian, explores wonderful uncharted territory in SOME DANGER INVOLVED (Touchstone/Simon & Schuster, $22.95). He also comes up with fresh facets for his partner-sleuths, an eccentric ”enquiry agent” named Cyrus Barker and his educated young apprentice, Thomas Llewelyn, who relates this fanciful narrative in the awed tones of an adolescent boy who has been given the keys to a kingdom of endless adventure. A hideous crime in London’s Jewish ghetto — the crucifixion of a rabbinical student who resembles images of Christ — gives these playfellows a fine excuse to plunge into the mysterious world of the Victorian underground. Although the plot is impossibly thick with intrigue and danger, true believers who go along for the ride will hate to see it end.

I’ve been on hold for the book since before it was published, and my copy hit my desk this morning. I can’t wait to give it my full attention!

Thanks to Adri of LibraryStories for letting me know about the review.
