Last year, Buffalo NY officials announced plans to close 16 libraries because of the county budget crisis, producing images of hollow, abandoned buildings suddenly dotting the county.
Library activists worried that these neighborhood assets would be lost forever as centers for community gatherings and intellectual growth.
