National Library of Canada suffers 72nd flood in 10 Years

I am Canadian and I am Mad as Hell writes \”On Wednesday morning, sprinklers went off in a storage area of the National Library of Canada, destroying hundreds of irreplaceable documents. As horrific as this sounds, even more egregious is the fact that this is the 72nd flood at the NLC during the past 10 years, with the total number of items damaged in these floods estimated at 25,000.

The story was reported in a National Library press release – and by the CBC.

If you are as outraged as I am about this federal institution\’s neglect for the country\’s published heritage, I urge you to write to the Prime Minister, to Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage and to Roch Carrier, National Librarian to let them know that we need a new, environmentally secure facility NOW. \”
