The English National Library says no! An antiques dealer who found a collection of sketches and personal mementoes hidden in a chest of drawers by one of Wales best-loved artists has been banned from selling them.
The library claims that it is the rightful owner of the cache as Sir Kyffin, who left an estate of 6 million, had bequeathed his papers and artworks to its collection. The library says that Mr Williams bought the chest but not the drawings.
Whiner
OK, I’ll agree putting the holds on open shelves with patron’s names on it is not the best solution. However this guy is just a whiner.
I say do away with holds and tell them it was done because a patron complained about privacy and people knowing what he was reading. I’m sure after this story the other patrons will let him know how they feel. Well, that is probably not the best idea, but what does this whiner want?
He wants everything done his way even though other people might be inconvenienced. He wants the held books to be kept secret from the other patrons in the libary. He wants to take away the convenience of getting the books from the shelf and using self-check out that apparently many other people enjoy.
The library covered the titles, but he wasn’t happy.
The library put the books in envelopes, but he decided to open other people’s envelopes to see if the library would respond. When they didn’t respond to his childish invasion of other patron’s privacy he wasn’t happy.
The library offered to put his – and anyone else who requested it- behind the desk but that didn’t make him happy.
In 5 minutes online using no fee based services I found his website, his address and phone number, the serveral trusts in which he is the grantee or grantor recorded in Arlington County courthouse, satellite photos of his address and pictures of his dog. Oddly I cannot find a Maryland (it is mentioned that he practices in MD) or Virginia Psychologist license, but I only used free services. (I could use lexis-nexis but that would be too easy.)
So perhaps he should stop whining. Does he hide his library books when he walks out of the library?
He is so concerned about what could happen …
I assume nobody has given him a good swift kick in the stones, and I bet he gets that before anyone worries about what he is reading.
Odd
Wow, that was odd. That has nothing to do with this article. I know it took me a 20 minutes to write that as I was interrupted several times, but I thought I clicked the right button. I hadn’t even read or opened this story yet.
