National Librarian Roch Carrier among winners at CNIB’s Torgi Literary Awards

Here’s some Good News for Roch Carrier, Canada’s National Librarian.

He was on hand to accept the
CNIB-Produced Non-Fiction Award for Our Life With the Rocket: The Maurice
Richard Story. “It is extremely important that published material is made
available in alternative formats for people who are blind, visually impaired,
or deafblind,” said Carrier. “All Canadians have the right to access
information in a timely, affordable, and equitable manner.” Less than 5% of
information ever makes it into a format that someone who is blind or visually
impaired can read. The problem is a familiar one for Carrier, who established
the Council on Access to Information for Print-Disabled Canadians in 2001 to
address this issue.
