National Book Awards Announced

Lots of news related to the National Book Awards, which were given in a ceremony last night.

Here’s an overview from the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Highlights: Young adult author, and perennially censored Judy Blume received an honorary medal for her contribution to letters. Lily Tuck took home the fiction award for “The News From Paraguay.” Kevin Boyle won the non-fiction award for “Arc of Paradise, leaving the 9/11 Commission Report an also-ran.

There was a huge bitchfest surrounding this year’s awards, focusing on the selection of such little-known finalists, when many think the purpose of the award should be to boost reading and booksales.

Other reports from NPR and the NY Times.
