Nancy Pearl & the Action Doll — An Update

Here from the Richmond Times Dispatch an update on our hero Nancy Pearl, her books (she’s working on a sequel to “Book Lust”) and her doll.

Nancy says of her ‘prototype’: “The action figure was meant to be a tribute to librarians,” she said, “and most take it that way. Ninety-nine percent of the librarians around the country have a sense of humor. There was one in Maine who didn’t care for the action figure. Every time she talked to a reporter, it sold another 2,000.”

Of the Top 12 novelty items listed on the Archie McPhee web site, the librarian doll ranks No. 1, ahead of the smoking donkey, the bacon air freshener and the pig catapult. She outsells all the other action figures, even Shakespeare, Beethoven and Jesus.
