Musical avalanche: It’s snowing compact discs at libraries

Believe it or not there are still articles out there on the big music settlement from a few months ago. This One comes to us from the Asbury Park Press where The Ocean County Library has an early Christmas present for you — 15,000 music compact discs for the bargain basement price of $2 each. The library received the compact discs as its portion of restitution in a nationwide antitrust suit alleging price fixing by certain CD manufacturers and retailers.

“After we placed as many CDs as we could into the library system, the Ocean County Library Commission authorized the fixed-price auction of the remaining CDs that are not required for public use,” said Paula Vitakis, library spokeswoman.
