More opposition to Bush Library at SMU

Fang-Face writes “Associated Press has an article about a new movement to pressure Southern Methodist University to halt its efforts to host the Bush presidential library. Ministers Launch Petition to Stop Bush Library can be found at TruthOut.org. A group of Methodist ministers have launched an online petition drive.”

    An online petition, that’ll do the trick
    What a waste of time and energy. Online signatures from people who have no standing with the university. So a bunch of Methodist ministers started it. Unless they have been writing checks to the University Foundation no one gives a damn.

    John M. Scroggins As a Methodist, and retired official of the National Archives–the unbiased administrator of Presidential Libraries,

    I find this petition extremely offensive. I am appalled by the ignorance of the National Archives and the Presidential Library system demonstrated by the originators. I am offended that by the implied disparagement of the archivists I worked with over the years. I am amazed that Southern Methodist has become such a small-minded institution. And I am appalled that so many here would violate the principle of separation of church and state and attempt to have the United Methodist Church interfere in the administration of a government program that has aided scholarship and the study of government since Franklin Roosevelt started the first Presidential Library in 1939. I urge the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University and the South Central Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church to ignore this foolish, ignorant, bigoted petition.

    Um… yeah, what he said.

    Some history in the archives
    My dad went to highschool with Scroggins. His nickname was “Scrotum”.
