Sheree Standard said she doesn\’t think her 8-year-old son and other youngsters should be reading the story about a 9-year-old boy who wants to play hopscotch with the girls at recess instead of wall ball with the boys. She said she\’s disturbed that in the book, Marvin dreams that he wears a dress to baseball practice and wishes he could change his hairstyle like the girls do.
Christine Weaver, the principal at Tyler School, which serves 440 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in New Lenox Township, said the book was meant to be \”weird and beyond belief.\” The book, \”Marvin Redpost: Is He a Girl?,\” by Louis Sachar, a prize-winning children\’s author, has been widely used in the school.
