Written by Michele Luccketta–known as “shell,â€? The Golden Key is an inspirational children’s book about how a golden key can unlock children’s imaginations so they can become anything they want to be.The book’s cover was created by shell and the inside illustrations created by shell’s son, six year old Jose and his Kindergarten class at Steinbeck Elementary School.
There are five other beautiful foster and adopted children in shell’s home; upon joining the family each child is taken to the Steinbeck Library to acquire their first library card and are exposed to the wonderful world of imagination and education through reading. She started this tradition 20 years ago with her biological daughter, Jen and instilled within her a passion for reading that has followed her through her life.
In November 2004 Monterey voters elected to close down the libraries. The Luccketta family asked, “What good is a library card when they close the libraries down? Independent fundraising is taking place with celebrities (including Bill Murray) and citizens trying to raise at least $500,000 to keep the library open.
Mrs. Luccketta says, “Every dime from the proceeds of sales of The Golden Key will go to saving the local libraries. If the libraries will close, many children will be robbed of the wonderful opportunity a trip to the library affords.

MONTEREY BAY AREA FAMILY TAKES ACTION AGAINST PERMANENT CLOSING OF LOCAL LIBRARIES
***UPDATE*** 🙂 I am not sure I should submit another blurb or if this comment will suffice. I wanted to inform you that AUTHORHOUSE the “self publishing” house has offered to publish the book free of any charges. They will be adding a forward to the book explaining the importance of our libraries. They truly are supporting our libraries, both monetarily and by spreading the word nationwide. Thank you for your support!
Hello
http://pottershands.com/goldenkey.htm
New Press Release
One BIG way the small community can help the whole, has been magnified nationwide.
AuthorHouse, the world’s oldest and largest self-publishing company has offered without charge to publish the children’s book The Golden Key . AuthorHouse has offered to make this book available to all bookstores, (including major chains) as well as making it available to every library nationwide. Keeping with the ultimate goal, that one hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of The Golden Key is going towards saving the Salinas libraries. AuthorHouse is sponsoring this endeavor to ensure a greater emphasis on the need for supporting our libraries nationwide. Salinas Mayor, Anna Caballero has embarked on a “Rally for Salinas campaign to save the libraries and has written the forward to book.
In the hopes of saving local libraries from closing, a devoted mother’s appreciation for reading and her love of children prompts the release of her long-awaited children’s book The Golden Key.
The Golden Key is an inspirational children’s book geared to unlocking the imaginations of children between 2 and 7.
The illustrations have been created by the author’s 6-year-old son Jose Luccketta and his Kindergarten class at Steinbeck Elementary School.
The author of The Golden Key, Michele Luccketta, known to most as “shell, is an artist and children’s advocate. Her home is filled with six beautiful children that her family has fostered and adopted, just this year!
Every child upon entering her home is taken to Steinbeck Library, to acquire his or her first library card and to be exposed to the wonderful world of imagination and education through reading. She started this trend over 20 years ago with her eldest daughter Jen and instilled within her a passion for reading that has followed her through her life.
What good is a library card when they close the libraries down?
In order to save local libraries, we need to help raise $500,000. Otherwise, sadly the libraries will close and many children will be robbed of the wonderful opportunity a trip to the town library affords.
One small step from each of us can carry all of us very far.
Illustrations from the book and much more information is available at http://pottershands.com/goldenkey.htm
