Michael Gorman, head of ALA on the Patriot Act

The Reader’s Shop sends this “Reuters piece in which ALA President Michael Gorman calls the calls the “librarian” clause of the Patriot Act “Kafkaesque.” Gorman compared the clause
to “50s and the “red scare”. Gorman spoke of the government’s rationale for the clause and it’s possible effects on Libraries across the nation.

    “To be perfectly honest, I’m a 64-year-old academic librarian,” he said. “I’m not going to go to prison over that kind of stuff.”

    He was doing okay up to that point. Not that I agreed with him or anything but that line just blew it.

    I couldn’t get to the one above, but this one neglects the reference to Kafka. I was surprised there was no disparaging comment about weblogs, though.
