Rich writes “The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, Mass. reports that the Turner Free Library in Randolph, Mass has losts its state certification which means it cannot receive state library aid for at least two years.
“Randolph is not the only local library that has been in danger of losing certification in recent years, but it is the only one that has actually lost it.”
“The library received about $20,000 in state aid last year, which is in addition to its town budget.”

Correction
Okay, I don’t want to be a troublemaker or anything, but it hasn’t been the Buffalo Evening News in over 20 years. It’s just the Buffalo News, since they don’t publish an evening paper anymore.

Old habits die hard.
I wonder if WBEN is still around? (Apparently yes, but to listen online you have to whore out your personal information and I’m not doing that.)
I miss an evening newspaper. My older brothers delivered the News in the early 70’s. I’d have that paper route if it weren’t for that butt kissing Zukowski kid.

I’m from Buffalo myself, but I don’t find childish bratty rumor-mongering attractive at any educational level, no matter how attractive the package. How about applying those librarian “skills” toward something worthwhile like tracking doctors who are thrown out of practice in one state for gross malpractice, extorting sex from patients and the like and just pop up somewhere else.
Re:boo
The state Board of Medicine and the National Practitioners Database already perform that function; there is no need for me as a librarian to duplicate that effort. If you ask a skillful librarian he or she will be able to assist you with evaluating physicians you are considering engaging using existing resources. If you can’t find any I’ll be glad to help.
You might might want to ask a physician about anhedonia.
Re:boo
Looking up information on hot lesbian chicks is always a worthwhile use of librarian skills.
Re:Correction
Last week ESPN’s Tuesday Morning Quarterback (aka Gregg Easterbrook) paid tribute to the Buffalo News as being the last major daily people to offer an afternoon edition, only switching to mornings-only a few weeks ago. So maybe the “evening” is an acknowledgement of it being the last holdout, even if that edition is no more.
