Massachusetts Library grabs for a lifeline

The Boston Globe Reports on some troubles in Medway. Medway’s public library, which this year cut a third of its staff and shut its doors on weekends, will find out next month whether state library officials have given it the certification waiver it needs to continue at the current bare-bones level.
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners will examine waiver petitions in a Jan. 5 meeting from towns and cities that gave their libraries less funding than the state requires. Those libraries must be given waivers to be certified, which means they can get thousands of dollars in state aid, take part in a library loan network, and apply for certain grants.
