Manga Removed from Southern California Library

The Desert Dispatch has a piece on removal of the book “Manga: Sixty years of Japanese Comics,” at the Victorville (CA) Library. The mother of a 16 year-old objected to the books contents which included sex acts and bestiality, and was pleased when First District Supervisor Bill Postmus successfully had the book removed from the library shelves.

    NOT a comic book…
    “Following an article that ran in the Desert Dispatch and the Daily Press, First District Supervisor Bill Postmus on Wednesday ordered county libraries to remove a Japanese comic book that contained pornographic cartoons.”

    It wasn’t a Japanese comic book, it’s a book written about the history of manga and is published by a company in the UK (with an incredibly annoying website). They could have tried to get it right. There’s enough cluelessness about comics and manga already without making it worse.

    Oddly enough, I had a hard time finding this on Amazon.com with a title search. I had to go to the UK site and get the ISBN to search with.
