Lost library snake is found

Anonymous Patron writes “Good News From Cedar Falls, Iowa, where Skeeze, the 1-year-old red albino corn snake, has been found! Skeeze had been missing from his cage in the Cedar Falls Public Library for one month. Monday Walter, a library assistant, picked up the pans of water the staff had scattered around the building.
No one knows where Skeeze spent the last month, but he was finally found under a chair in an alcove with east-facing windows near the adult fiction section.

    If he’d lived in our library

    If the little fella lived at our library, there’d have been no shortage of food. He would have been found the size of a reticulated python, with the great amount of rodentia we had in house.

    Corn snakes, for the record, are some of the most docile snakes (and one that’s been bred to the red albino phase is about as domesticated as the cockerpoo, as far as snakes go). Like any snake, if they have a store of fat, they can go easily eight months without eating without showing any signs of ill health (believe me, had a male Keyan sand boa put me through the paces and go nine months before he ended his hunger strike.) My guess is that, er, Skeeze, spent his time under a radiator somewhere.

    Call me a heretic, but library snakes make more sense than library cats… They eat cleanly what they catch, and don’t bat their prey all around technical services and then leave it on the cataloger’s keyboard half eaten. They’re non-allergenic, and you only have to feed them once a week. And if a patron is behaving badly and not responding to your suggestion that perhaps they should go away and cool off for a bit, saying Julius Squeezer has escaped might get them going.
