LOC buys oldest map of ‘America’

The Library of Congress is shelling out 10 million bucks for an old map. The map, known as the Waldseemuller Map was designed and drawn by Martin Waldseemüller, who honored the explorer Amerigo Vespucci by naming the mapped lands \”America.\” This map, in 12 pages, is the only remaining copy of 1000 prints and has been housed in a German castle for the past 350 years. Experts deem it to be in excellent shape. More here at National Geographic.
I hope the LOC has a really nice bulletin board to pin this map on.
