Little Alabama Library Wants to Stay Open

Story from the Moulton (AL) Advertiser about a work session of the Courtland Town Council on the subject of keeping the town’s library open.

Library Director Pat Osborne, Librarian Dena Faye Eskridge and members of the Library Board attended the meeting.

In previous meetings, the council expressed its intentions of closing the library. But the council found closing a state-supported library was not just a matter of locking the doors. A number of steps have to be taken to close the facility.

Osborne asked what the reason was for to closing the library. “Is it money?” she asked.

Councilwoman Laura Terry said the town was in a survival mode financially. “We are not quite to the crisis point yet,” she said. “But we are close. The closing was strictly financial.”

“Staying open is a priority for the town,” Osborne said. “Our library is not a big one, but it is a useful one.”
