The Cook Memorial Public Library board’s ethics policy is being blasted by two library trustees who say the document stifles free speech.
Board allies Jack L. Martin and Tom Forester, who regularly clash with other members, voted against renewing the guidelines this week. They say the policy can be used to improperly control board members’ actions and opinions or to punish trustees who speak out against board decisions.
“It’s a tyranny of the majority,” Forester said Friday. “A library is supposed to stand for free speech. This denigrates it.”

These are instances of hypocritical librarians who do not follow their hypocritically merely enunciated principles of free speech using the very technology devised to encourage free speech.
