In The Oregonian, Laura Grimes writes that she was dismayed at the amount of her overdue fine at the Multnomah Public Library. One day it was five cents a day, the next day it was $.25 a day.
Her plan was to write a book about each book that she had borrowed that was overdue; apparently late returns were a regular occurence.

No, no purpose I could
No, no purpose I could see.
Do Libraries really charge (or until recently used to charge) only 5c a day? That’s a real incentive to take books back!
Obviously noone wanted that book she had out for 7 months but really she’s lucky it’s not something more like $50!
