Library faces growing needs

Deteriorating library skills among Wichita Falls’ students may be the first warning sign that state assessment scores are headed for trouble, said Linda Hughes, library administrator for the Wichita Falls Public Library.

To save money, the Wichita Falls Independent School District cut back on its library staff last year and even closed some school libraries for a few days each week because no one was available to staff them. Even though school district officials claim all libraries will be staffed this year, parents shouldn’t assume there will be a qualified librarian assisting or teaching their children, she said.”
