Library Explains America to New Residents

Neat commentary from a US Embassy worker whose job it is to answer questions about American life and culture to Bangladeshis moving to the US.

We explain American culture in a number of ways: press releases, speaking engagements and public events. My favorite way, however, is through a great American institution: the library.(snip)

The U.S. Embassy American Center Library now offers books, videos, magazines and materials for children. It’s a lively place with movie shows, visiting speakers and many more visitors, most of them young people. Our collection, which focuses on American fiction, English language learning, business and computers, is being used more every day.

More from the Port Huron (MI) Times Herald. Let’s hope that these people will find such welcoming and helpful libraries in their new communities.
