Library branches to stay open in Erie

Good News for patrons in Erie, PA, where Erie County Council agreed Monday to provide $800,000 to keep all six library branches open next year, although at hours that will be reduced for the second time in a year.

The county had faced closing four of the six branches in 2004 because the state had cut more than $1 million in library funding.

“I don’t think anybody wanted to cut library service,” said Council Chairwoman Joy Greco. “This is a better option and still provides some service, although more limited.”
