Library Book Loan Program used to Smuggle Drugs

We’ve all heard about the shiv in the cake, but what about the meth in the book…

The Houston Chronicle reports: An inmate from Fort Worth and his girlfriend were sentenced to prison after both used the book swap to smuggle drugs to inmates, the U.S. attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

Drugs turned up in the spines of some books or in the shipping cartons, spokeswoman Kathy Colvin told The Associated Press.

Edmond Wright, 34, was sentenced Monday to 30 years in federal prison. His girlfriend, Sherry Mathews, 42, got five years.
