Library Board Eyes Cuts, Librarians Eye Unions

bukowski sent over a story from wthr.com in Indianapolis. The new Indianapolis Central Library expansion is coming over a staggering $40 million over budget, so the library board is looking for more ways to cut costs. So far, they’ve come up with ways to save nearly three quarters of a million dollars in 2007 and more in 2008. Among the proposals: outsourcing cataloging, processing, printing and deliveries, eliminating five new central staff positions and two positions in community relations, as well as selling the library service center and leasing out the old Ambassador Apartment building.
