Libraries won’t pump up economy until 2010

Libraries won’t pump up economy until 2010: The Fulton County library building program stands to pump $275 million into a local economy sorely in need.

But the timeline laid out by library leaders Wednesday showed it may be a while before local residents will be cashing in on the spending voters approved last month.

Library officials plan to build eight new libraries and expand two others as their first priority. They hope to get all 10 projects moving at the same time so that all will be ready as soon as possible, with design and engineering work running through 2009 and construction beginning in 2010.

“They are all collectively priority projects,” said John Szabo, library director. “The intention is to move forward with them simultaneously.”
