Libraries evolving as society changes

The Chicago Tribune [Reg. Req.] takes a look at a few local Chicagoland libraries, and some of the innovative programs they have to offer.

They say the libraries are are leading patrons down other roads by offering myriad classes and having the latest in technology that increases access to the world of information.

The reasons people use libraries have not changed, but the tools and means of conveying information have evolved.

“A lot of people want quiet. They’re studying or they’re working on a project. Our library is arranged so there are quiet zones and more lively zones, People come here to see each other. Or, you’ll see a child flopped out on a bench reading,”
