Stop the pity party!
Three out of four Americans read a printed book last year. That’s the kind of unity we can’t get on anything else. People are reading magazines, newspapers and fiction on the Internet like crazy.
I just don’t see the problem as one of reading going away. And that we have let ourselves be manipulated into agreeing that’s the way it is doesn’t help our cause.
I don’t think I’m a pollyana, but I’m not ready to sound a dirge for reading based on one study that indicates a strong majority of Americans are reading printed materials. Especially when I know a lot more quality reading is going on on-line.

I totally agree: flip the statement on its head, and it is a positive message. So, it’s not disgusting; it’s terrific, and a cause for celebration.
