Librarians finding life as bookmarks

Librarians finding life as bookmarks, from The Carolina Morning News takes a peek inside the book return.

Tissues, some that could have been used, food, photographs, doctor’s appointment slips, mail, credit cards, postcards, grocery lists and love letters are only a few of the things local librarians have found over the years in borrowed books.

“Sometimes these books come back in horrendous condition,” said Ann Rosen, branch manager for the Bluffton Library. “They come back chewed up by the proverbial dog or soaking wet,” she said. “It’s obvious they didn’t go out that way. The bathtub is not a good idea,” she said. “We had a patron tell us … the book fell in the toilet. We keep sanitizer at the desk.”
