Personally, my favorite librarian in fiction lately has been Adele Mundy from David Drake’s Lt. Leary series. (The first two books, With the Lightnings and Lt. Leary Commanding are conveniently available free online over at the Baen Free Library. Definitely a very modern librarian and a lot more interesting than many librarian characters floating around out there.
