Most of us know a bit about the history of homosexuals from Stonewall til the present, but what do we know about same-sex relationships in early America? William Benemann, a librarian at UC Berkeley’s Law School (Boalt Hall)has tackled this fairly elusive subject and published a book entitled Male-Male Intimacy in Early America: Beyond Romantic Friendships, (Harrington Park Press, a gay/lesbian imprint of Haworth Press).
The UC Berkeley News profiles the author and has more information on the book. Benemann will present a reading next week at the Harvey Milk branch of the San Francisco Public Library.
