Librarian Transformation–From Books to Booze

Here’s another story about , from the Dallas/Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Haley Holmes, who is working on her LIS dissertation at University of North Texas, recently landed a spot on the TV show Faking It. It’s a fish-out-of-water show that takes folks completely out of their element and gives them a mentor in a completely different field. Haley ended up doing time at the Coyote Ugly saloon in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, and apparently was able to keep her mild-mannered librarian self under wraps.     As long as she did not jeopardize her position in the library she is employed in, that is her perogative. However, if she was a library media specialist in a school situation, this may infringe on the impact this would have not only on herself but on the district. It is bad enough that many times public education gets a bad rap. If staff decides to do very visible alternate employment opportunities, this may impact their jobs and how the public perceives them.

    She worked at a university library. I am sure that she ran this past her employers before doing the show. I work at the same library and permission has to be granted before any filming or photography takes place in the library.
