Librarian Leaving DePaul For Supreme Court

SomeOne writes httpNBC5.com Reports DePaul law school librarian Judith Gaskell admits the interviewing process for her newest job was a little intimidating. She was recently chosen to head the U.S. Supreme Court’s law library.

The 57-year-old beat out three other finalists after interviewing with a handful of the high court’s justices.

Gaskell said she knew she had the job when she met Chief Justice William Rehnquist and he introduced her as the new librarian.

Gaskell has worked for DePaul for 20 years. She leaves the school on July 25 to become the Supreme Court’s 10th librarian. She will be the third woman to hold the post and her duties will include managing a staff of 25 and a more than 450,000 volume library.

Gaskell said she saw the job advertised in a legal periodical and applied because she thought it would be nice to live closer to friends. She said the job is the ultimate honor of her career. “
