An (as yet unidentified) Fargo, ND librarian was among those barred from attending President
Bush’s speech there yesterday:
Fargo City Commissioner Linda Coates is among more than 40 area residents included on a list of people apparently barred from attending President Bush’s speech today in Fargo.
Among the 42 area people on the do-not-admit list: two high school students, a librarian, a Democratic campaign manager and several university professors …
Complete article, and more here. The White House claims no one was barred, of course, but their track record on shutting out critics is miserable.
Oops!
“Fargo police said the “no admittance” list was not from police or the Secret Service, but was created by a local volunteer involved in the ticket distribution.”
The whole “Crisis Tour” seems like an extension of the presidential campaign, so it makes sense to me the local Republican party got confused.
Names of Those Barred
Brittney Goodman, interim director of instructional resources at Minnesota State University Moorhead , and Linda Coates, Fargo City Commissioner and liaison member of the Fargo Public Library board were the two individuals barred from attending Bush’s speech. Here’s an update: Grand Forks Herald .
Re:Names of Those Barred
Glad to hear this wasn’t done at WH instructions, but sad to see local officials drawing up banned lists. Especially from the party that claims to be for global freedom.
It would be nice to see the President issue a public statement that all Americans are always welcome at his speeches and would only be removed if they engage in disorderly conduct. And then make sure his staff work with local officials to make this a reality.
Freedom begins at home.
Re:Names of Those Barred
It would be nice, but it won’t happen.
Re:Names of Those Barred
Since I was the librarian on the “list” — let me say that it was deeply troubling to know such a list exists. I guess being a supporter of first amendment freedoms and potentially having differing points of views from the current regime does not make a person welcome.
Apparently, most of us on the list had something in common — membership in the local Democracy for America meetup group.
