Libary book cart drill team: helped break the typical librarian stereotypes

andovertownsman.com Says The Cartwheelers, The Memorial Hall Library book cart drill team who perform choreographed moves in the annual Firefighters’ Parade on Thanksgiving weekend say they’ve helped break the typical librarian stereotypes.
And now the team is winning awards. The drill team recently took first place at the Massachusetts Library Association’s first book cart drill team competition in Falmouth.

    Dorks dorking it up in public? That breaks the librarian stereotype?

    I’ll get excited when we have an MLS in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

    Books that Kill
    Hear, hear on the Ultimate Fighting angle…though that group is a little tacky and overwrought for my sensibilities.

    What we need is a new martial arts discipline that uses books. The brazilians have Capoeira; we can to use Bookem.

    Sure there will be some tossing and slinging books around like ninja shurikens, but also the subtle holds of Aikido can be adopted…gently disabling opponents with the “nose pinch and twist between the leaves technique”.

    Qi energy can be manifested from the diaphram with a powerful…Shhhhhssh!

    No need for large tomes…elegance and precision can be obtained with light reading fare. Picture books may be incorporated, so grade schoolers can defend themselves at deserted school bus stops.

    The young adult programs will be packed…think of the stats we will rack up with programming such as…”Using War and Peace to Snap Kneecaps.” “Nancy Drew’s, The Nutcracker Ballet Mystery…Defend Yourself Villains!”

    I could go on, but I probably shouldn’t…
