Kiva is a site that allows people to make micro-loans to entrepreneurs around the world. You can donate as an individual but you can also join teams.
There is a Lending Librarians Team.
We loan because: Without food, who can afford books? Without knowledge, what good is income? Plus, librarians are natural lenders!
About us: Librarians, library students, and other information-profession-oriented folks dedicated to helping raise the standard of literacy and education in the developing world through giving people a boost out of poverty.
How it works
If you want to loan as part of the Lending Librarians team you join the team and then when you make a loan you will be given the option to make the loan as part of the team.
If you join the team but have a loan you want to make but not as a member of the team you can do that.
I made my first loan and then joined the team after that so my loan does not show as part of the team. I am looking to make another loan and will do that one as part of the team.
Kiva is a good idea because
Kiva is a good idea because particulars can lend small amounts of money directly to other particulars who live in developing countries who need it instead of donating large funds to organizations.
Later, when the goal is reached after a period of six to twelve months, it is also received the returning of the loan, always free of any interest. That same money can be reused to make up a new project.
You can also check out project photos and explanations to know how the business works.
It’s a way to help those people in need.
Librarians should loan librarians
Wish it was an agroup of librarians loaning to fellow librarians circles, does anyone know such group?
