Legislators looking to ease libraries’ financial burdens (phillyBurbs.com)

Anonymous Patron writes “The PA libraries saga continues… phillyBurbs.com Reports State Rep. Thomas Corrigan Sr. plans to introduce legislation to exempt Pennsylvania libraries from the state sales tax.

While books bought for public libraries are exempt, other materials – including older books sold by libraries – are taxed. Corrigan, D-140 (Bucks), said there should be some relief for libraries in light of recent state and county budget cuts.

“Libraries are an essential resource for our local communities. They provide educational and research opportunities for children and students,” Corrigan said. “Libraries can be a key economic development component by providing information and resources to small business owners. They enhance the quality of life for our residents.”
