Lbrary director settle lawsuit

Library Director Deborah Owen alleged her city had denied her a pay raise because she was a woman, according to the lawsuit filed Dec. 17, 2004, in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. Pending city approval she’ll receive about $20,000 as part of a proposed settlement in a sexual discrimination lawsuit she filed in 2004. “It was a nuisance lawsuit,” Baeske said “It costs the insurance company more to fight it. This is a travesty — a complete travesty. I have full confidence that if we would have gone to court we would have won.”
