LA. school bans YA classic from classroom

After fielding complaints from half a dozen parents, Alexandria (LA) High School Principal Joe Moreau decided to pull the coming of age novel “The Learning Tree” by Gordon Parks from a classroom. Citing sexual content as the main reason for prohibiting the book from being taught in an English class, Moreau agreed to leave the book in the library, saying that it hadn’t been checked out much.

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has registered its concern about how the issue is being handled. More here from Talk of the Town, a local newspaper.
