One From CNet on those darn kids. Nowadays, an increasing number of teenagers are setting up proxies on home PCs to sidestep school filtering traps, in addition to using free proxies set up on the Web, according to technologists at schools and at content-filtering technology providers.
Proxies are just one of many tricks that kids use to break locks put on forbidden material–a pursuit of almost any young generation. As more schools place tight controls on PCs to stop kids from file-sharing, instant messaging, social networking or looking at undesirable material online, the kids are getting more clever, tech experts say.
Hand them your head on a platter !
Interesting thing about this article is it only deals with url filtering…
an “analytical phrase filter” would filter the material anyways…
a good filter would have two layers so proxy filtering would not be a work around.
Anyone in the security business would probably let the person attempting a “work a round” to continue to gather the info about “who what where” for security reasons and then shut them down…thats what they did with “Ryan” in the article…not a big deal in school…but perhaps a bigger deal elsewhere …China perhaps? ….or a firing reason in the work world.
The best way to exploit information is to let someone “think†they are getting away with it.
Then it all depends upon what you want to do about it. They basically hand you thir heads on a platter.
I’ll cut and paste some info as an example of how analytical phrase filters work… ………………………………………….. ……………….
” This is what works the best at this time for pornography.
Something has to do something to something.
That is the essence of the phrase filter.
And example filter phrase would be:
[blond,redhead,dog,gay man,girl][sucks,fucks,licks][a big][cock,dong,penis]
This line specifies a whole array of phrases to block.
Craft the permutations and combinations of these elements and you have a porn “analytical phrase filterâ€. And if a page has these elements you are very likely correct about the nature of the page.
This concept seems to work the best.”

I’d like to read Turner’s comment, but it’s been blocked by our analytical phrase filter. (Grin)
