Individuals, organizations and government officials cheer for more focus on education and improved test scores. Odd how many of these same people can see eliminating the heart of learning (the library) as a viable fit into that equation.
For residents who have at-home access to the Internet and who conduct their research work online, the closing of the libraries may seem minimal. But pause and think about the thousands, perhaps millions, of people in the city who do not have at-home Internet access. Can you see and feel the brunt of the cuts now?
Gets even more fun then
Gets even more fun then that. PA is one of the states out there that actually copyrights their government documents. This means there’s typically limited access to government documents for research on remote systems. That’s an access situation that closing the Philly libraries could not have been helping.
