As approved by the House Federal and State Affairs Committee, the bill would require any library computer available to minors to be equipped as of July 1 with an Internet device to filter out obscene material.

Rep. Becky Hutchins, a Holton Republican, shepherded the legislation through the House debate.

“We constantly hear the phrase that times have changed, and I would agree with that, but the one thing that has not changed — our responsibility to keep minors safe and the role of government to aid us in that process, she told the House.

The bill is HB 2420. Bills are available on the Internet at www.kslegislature/cgi-bin/index.cgi.”
