Japanese Manga Ruled Obscene

Anonymous Patron points to this BBC story about a ruling handed down by a Tokyo court which declared a Japanese manga (comic book) obscene. Publisher Monotori Kishi was handed a one-year sentence and suspended for three years for violating Japanese penal code which prohibits the sale and distribution of obscene literature.

A story from News24.com gives more detail about the adults-only title in question, Honey Room which sold over 20,000 copies in 2002. Monotori immediately appealed the ruling, calling it ” an infringement on freedom of expression.”
