Janitor Becomes Indiana Library Executive

Anonymous Patron writes News – Post-Tribune (Northwest Indiana) reports As if its budget problems and travel woes weren’t enough, the Gary Public Library has hired a custodian convicted of federal racketeering charges to oversee inventory.

Perry Gordon, 55, had been a custodian at the library’s Tolleston branch before February, when he was elevated to the new position of affirmative action officer and director of inventory control.

He was given the $35,000-a-year job though he did not have key qualifications listed in the job posting released by the library. He does not have a bachelor’s degree or possess a background in employment law, civil rights legislation or a knowledge of state personnel guidelines.”
