Anonymous Patron writes “An AP Technology Writer Reports The Internet’s primary oversight body approved a plan Wednesday to create a virtual red-light district, setting the stage for pornographic Web sites to use new addresses ending in “xxx.”
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers said it would begin negotiations with ICM Registry Inc., run by British businessman Stuart Lawley, to iron out technical issues and prices for the new Web addresses.”
So I guess the questions now become…
So I guess the questions now become…
Will libraries now block *.xxx addies? .xxx sites or will there still be huge crossovers (e.g. Can you imagine the owner of sex.com sacrificing it for sex.xxx) ?
in the US would it be legal to do so?
Can usage rates force non-.xxx sites to become
Re:So I guess the questions now become…
I don’t know, there is some poetic justice to Whitehouse.xxx. Maybe would force Whitehouse.gov to adopt it.
So what’s the criteria?
Once again we arrive at another junction where one person’s porn is another’s art. I’m a huge fan of Patrick Nagel, a man known for his minimalist paintings of beautiful women. Some of his portraits portray nude women. Now then, nudes are nothing new in the art world, but his work appeared in Playboy magazine on a regular basis. Does that make it porn or does that make it art? Maybe it’s both?
I’m a digital artist and I work in acrylics, I paint and draw beautiful women and damn near every last one of them is nude. Some of my could be considered pornographic, because some of my inspiration comes from pornography. However, as some stuffy art student might say, I take an image and reinvent it in my own world- reimagining the possibilities and the intent…

So is my work porn, or art? Is Nagel’s work porn or art? Since I display my work on my website, should I acquire a .xxx TLD? Well, back to the original question, that depends on someone’s definition of porn- usually someone else’s.
As long as there’s no force involved and this is all voluntary, then no big deal. If I ran some kind of X rated site, I’d apply for it because it would be like a brand name. However I see no reason to force someone into this.
Re:So I guess the questions now become… .jobs domains.
I suspect that the owners of some porn sites are going to try signing up for
BFD .info, .biz, .museum, .aero or any of the other new TLD’s.
Few have heard of
My own email address does not end in any of the traditional domains and people always ask me is it, .cx.com? no it is just .cx
For those of you who don’t know the global top level domains (gTLD) are:
.aero
.biz
.com
.coop
.edu
.gov
.info
.int
.mil
.museum
.name
.net
.org
When .xxx is added I’ll add it to my list but I doubt it will be very popular. I think the perverts are not going to be programmers so they will append everything with .com
However this is a real windfall for NetBox Inc. for the benefit of ESAZ Holdings LLC, the company that owns xxx.com (you bet your sweet bippy I checked to see if it was available)! They are still going to go to http://www.dirtypictures.xxx.com
The world is full of pornography and this new domain is just the pornograph they need to play it on.
