Indy Library CEO – Devastation as a Management Technique

Cortez writes “If/when the new improved Indianapolis Central Library re-opens the victims will be the professional staff and collections as mandated by CEO Linda Mielke, while anointing a select group with raises and perks
indystar.com Reports “Staff librarians in the trenches are losing ground in pay and job duties. Most demoralizing is that their years of service and degrees seem to count for nothing. An example: Twenty-six librarians at Central Library for years have ordered new-book collections, everything from fiction to real estate, based on their expertise. Those positions will be collapsed into four slots. The new collection workers will have neither the freedom nor funds to order a variety, as in the past. Downtown’s Central Library, repository of reference material, is considered superfluous.â€? While enjoying a golden parachute via Indy taxpapers, “Mielke clearly is frustrated with the criticism. “I am trying to keep this system together,” she said. To paraphrase that Vietnam War classic, “We had to destroy the library to save it.â€?”
