Indiana U. keeps black culture library open after protest

Indiana University has decided not to close a library at the school’s black culture center after students protested its proposed shutdown.

Students say the library at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center is both a place to study and a home away from home for black students on IU’s predominantly white campus. Black students compose 4.3 percent of total enrollment.

”It is a place where African American students meet to study and have dialogue,” said Grace Jackson-Brown, library director.
